Ian Argys

Guitarist, Songwriter, Teacher, Author

Guitarist Ian Argys was born in New Hampshire and raised in Colorado. His first instrument was the clarinet and soon after, the alto saxophone. When Argys was fourteen, however, a family friend put a guitar in his hands and since then he's played guitar every day.
As an undergraduate at Metropolitan State University and the University of Colorado Denver, Argys performed with Lee Konitz, Larry Coryell, Bobby Shew, Kirk Knuffke and others. During this time he also met and studied briefly with Art Lande and Dave Devine, took jazz ensemble courses with Ron Miles, and performed with Luke Mossman (Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats) and performed and recorded with Isaac Slade (The Fray). In addition Argys met and began to study with Dale Bruning, a practice the two continue today. Argys continued his musical journey at the University of North Texas in Denton, where he performed with Michael League (Snarky Puppy) and many others.
Since completing his M.Mus., Argys is a working artist. He performs originally and collaboratively: in pit orchestras for musical theater productions (including RENT, Cabaret, Wild Party, Funny Girl, Spring Awakening, Billy Elliot, and dozens more), in Moscow, on KUVO 89.3 FM Colorado, on live television in Dallas Texas, and for Lyric Stage Theater, Boulder Dinner Theatre Stage, and others forthcoming. Argys has recorded with The Yaga Yagas, Taylor Mesplé, Scott Amendola and more, as well as for the Whisper Down the Lane project.
He has two solo original releases, Shift and SomniaWaves, available widely, and is completing a series of guitar instruction books, A Navigator's O.S. Currently, Argys is a lecturer at UC Denver, teaching applied guitar and commercial guitar styles, and coaching ensembles. He performs with Covenhoven, Joshua Trinidad, others and under his own name.
Argys travels worldwide and is available for performances, recordings, collaborations, lessons, tours, full -time employment, etc.
